About the Brand
Starbucks opened its doors in 1971 as a modest coffee bean retailer in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Today it’s the world’s largest coffeehouse chain, operating across dozens of countries with a significant UK presence spanning hundreds of company-operated and licensed stores. The name, drawn from the first mate in Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick, has become shorthand for the high-street coffee experience itself — and the green siren logo is one of the most recognised marks in retail.
The menu covers espresso-based drinks, teas, Frappuccinos, cold brews, and a broad range of iced and seasonal beverages. Customers can choose from whole, skimmed, oat, almond, and soya milk — most dairy alternatives at no extra charge — and tailor syrups, toppings, and cup sizes to suit their taste. Bakery items, paninis, and snack pots round out the food offering. Prices sit in the mid-range for UK high-street coffee, with a standard tall latte typically landing between £3 and £4 depending on size.
For regulars, the Starbucks Rewards programme is the main draw — and one we’d recommend even for occasional visitors. Members earn 10 Stars for every £1 spent via the app, and 130 Stars unlocks a free drink or food item. Gold-level members receive a complimentary birthday drink each year. The app supports order-ahead, contactless payment, and personalised promotions — features that cut queue times during the morning rush. Delivery is available through Deliveroo, Uber Eats, and Just Eat in many UK areas, though Rewards Stars generally can’t be earned on delivery orders.
Between the Rewards programme, app-based challenges, and the deals we’ve gathered on this page, there are several practical ways to spend a little less on your next visit.
How to use
Shopping Guide
When’s the best time to find Starbucks deals?
November is typically the peak for Starbucks promotions, with Black Friday, festive drink launches, and gift card offers all overlapping. Previous years have included bonus Star events and seasonal bundles. We’d also suggest watching for Double or Triple Star Days in the app — they help you reach the 130-Star free-drink threshold far faster than normal earning.
Is Starbucks Rewards worth signing up for?
We think so, even for occasional visitors. It’s free to join, you earn 10 Stars per £1, and 130 Stars unlocks a free drink — effectively around £1 back for every £13 spent. Gold members get a birthday drink too. The real value emerges when you stack Rewards with the app-only promotions and deals listed on this page.
Can I use a promo code and still earn Rewards Stars?
Generally yes — promo codes and Rewards Stars work independently, so applying a discount shouldn’t prevent Star accumulation on the same order. The main exception we’ve seen is delivery through third-party platforms, where Stars typically aren’t earned or redeemable. Always worth checking the specific offer terms.
What should I watch out for with Starbucks promotions?
Some deals are app-only or require payment via a registered Starbucks Card. Stars can expire after a period of account inactivity, so keep the app active. Newsletter offers tend to be single-use with a short redemption window. And delivery orders through Deliveroo, Uber Eats, or Just Eat are generally excluded from Rewards earning and redemption.
